REM ALICANTE

Last Wednesday, 23 September, we were officially introduced as members of REM Alicante.

Having worked on projects such as the Noxum Laboratories at the University of Alicante, Silvia Navarro’s store in the city centre, a detached home in Rojales and one of our earliest houses in Moraira, we are now taking a further step in Alicante Province.

We want to champion what still feels true, and what the pressure of mass development risks blurring: the huerta, lemon trees, dry-stone walls, fincas and farmhouses, the coast, good food, Alicante blinds, half-light and the habit of sitting outside in the evening cool.

This inherited knowledge should not be reduced to a postcard of Mediterranean sunshine. We need to learn how to build from those who did it before us: from whitewashed walls, shade, honest forms of shelter, cane screens and vine-covered pergolas. From an architecture that knows when to protect and when to open up.

But preserving does not mean standing still. We also believe in an innovative, open Alicante — one that can become a reference point without losing its character. Those who come from elsewhere seek light, outdoor living and a sense of calm that cannot be found in a catalogue. But they also value seriousness, discipline and rigour.

That is where we feel most at home: Mediterranean character, German mindset.

Our way of designing brings together Mediterranean sensitivity — light, material, the outdoors and calm — with method, control and an exacting standard that is never compromised once construction begins. It is not enough for a space to look beautiful. It has to work, endure and live up to the people who inhabit it.

By joining REM Alicante, we hope to make our small contribution to a province that retains its authenticity and continues to create projects with a strong sense of character, but also with memory, respect and humanity.

Because the character of a place is not designed from scratch. It is listened to before the first line is drawn.
